All Flowers Great and Small

Just because you’re big, doesn’t mean you’ve got the sweetest medicine. Herbalists know it. Bees know it.

All Flowers Great and Small are sweet. The best nectar isn’t about size. It’s about the life expressed right there, in that moment, in that bud. The energy of the moment is the energy that fuels the sweetness in life. Bees have a talent for recognizing the sweetest buds in each moment. If you watch closely, they’ll teach you how to choose the best from All Flower Great and Small, too.

My Thoughts on the Work

This piece began with a Start from January 2022. I loved the central image of monochromatic sunflowers. I wanted to play with the oranges and blacks evoked by that image, adding the yellows I think of when I think of sunflowers.

It was coming together nicely, but the bit I hadn’t quite got was the energy that gave this piece meaning. I love working with messages or ideas that are a little deeper than surface beauty. Beauty isn’t just what you see on the surface, after all. That’s one of the aspects I adore about my Muse. We agree that true beauty is playing with ideas while we play with form.

My Muse proposed the Bee element to this work. That’s when I knew I was hooked. When you’re far away, the bees are just a glint, maybe. But, when you get closer, you see them, their dance, and their choices right there. All Flowers, Great and Small, have the potential to fuel life, nourish your soul, and gift you with the sweetness in life.
